Friedkin to Direct 'An Inconvenient Truth'

William Friedkin will direct the premiere of the opera "An Inconvenient Truth," at La Scala in Milan. It is set to open on May 11, 2011.

According to Variety, J.D. McClatchy has been signed as the librettist. Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli will write the score. Participant Media, which financed the film based on Al Gore's book, will be among the backers of the opera.

"An Inconvenient Truth" is adocumentary film about global warming, presented by former United States Vice President Al Gore and directed by Davis Guggenheim. The film premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and opened in New York and Los Angeles on May 24, 2006. The film was released on DVD by Paramount Home Entertainment on November 21, 2006. A companion book authored by Gore reached was released along with the film. The documentary won Academy Awards for Best Documentary Feature and for Best Original Song.
