Disney Theatrical Group held a successful premiere engagement of The Lion King in Mexico City.  Throughout the four-week run at the Auditorio Nacional from January 3 - 27, the production grossed over 100 million pesos (approximately $10 million US) and entertained more than 150,000 people during 32 performances.  In New York it would take The Lion King 15 weeks to reach an audience of that size at The Minskoff Theatre.

The Lion King celebrated a landmark achievement in Mexico City.  During one performance, the production hosted 6,439 people, marking the largest venue and audience to which any company of The Lion King has played worldwide. 

Over the past five years, The Lion King 's two U.S. national touring productions have played to more than 10 million people in more than 50 major cities in 30 states. The two productions are currently playing in Milwaukee, WI at the Milwaukee Theatre through March 2, 2008 and in Pittsburgh, PA at The Benedum Center through February 17, 2008.   During the coming year, The Lion King will premiere in Toledo, Washington, D.C and Kansas City, and play return engagements in Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Tampa, Columbus, and Indianapolis.
