Auditions will be held for Idol: The Musical, a satirical new Off-Broadway musical described as "a show based on the woship of Clay Aiken."

After a hit run in Syracuse, NY, the producers of Idol: The Musical are bringing the show to New York.  They are now auditioning for understudies and future cast replacements.  Auditions will take place on Tuesday, June 19th from 10 am through 6 pm at Chelsea Studios (151 West 25th Street, 6th floor).

Preview performances for Idol: The Musical begin Off-Broadway at the 45th Street Theatre on Thursday, July 5th.  Produced by the Syracuse Civic Theatre's Todd Ellis, "Idol" will be directed by Bill Boland, who also wrote the show's book.  Jon Balcourt composed the music.  Boland and Balcourt co-wrote the lyrics.

The show, according to press notes, "is a satirical musical comedy that focuses on the outrageous and delusional fan base of the hit television show.   The musical takes place in Steubenville, Ohio where a group of dork-like students are preparing for their high school graduation after which they are determined to drag themselves out of the dregs of the middle-of-nowhere.  There are eight of them; all belonging to the same cult-like club that meets daily in a barn that doubles as a shrine to Clay Aiken...The story heats up when the mid-American leg of the 'Idol Tour,' starring Clay Aiken, is announced to be playing Chicago, Memphis, Louisville, Scranton, Charleston, Greensboro,  Roanoke and...Steubenville."

Producers are casting the following roles:

Adrienne:  "Hardened by an embarrassing audition experience, she returns to Steubenville, Ohio with a chip on her shoulder and wants to make heads roll that stand in her way, willing to kick down anyone to climb to the top.  She's a selfish diva-wanna-be antagonist merging the personalities of Simon Cowell, Ursula from The Little Mermaid, and Paris Hilton, who wants nothing more than to be adored by millions.  Big, white, Gucci sunglasses, glamorous Uggs, and an accessory dog encompass her entourage."

Alex: "A tough girl from across the tracks, Alex is a diamond in the rough with two cannons at her side to fight her battles, her fists: Armand Hammer and Peaches Honeyblossum (as she's nicknamed them).  She's brutally sarcastic and combative, often over compensating for an inferiority complex.  She is the classic John Deere hat toting, gas station red-neck with an embarrassing crush on Duncan, her tag along rival.  She longs for nothing more than to see the world and leave her black hole of a town behind."

Cass: "A hardcore Goth chick, who totes around a voodoo doll named Willard riddled with nails in his head, she energizes the world with an apathetic stare.  Her hilarious morbidity often frightens the others, but inside, a daydreamer with a big heart slumbers.  This other side of her appears whenever she encounters Connor, a home schooled introvert, in which her inner beauty shines and overwhelms her dark exterior."

Cicaida: "Adopted at an early age, Cicaida is the younger sibling of Kodi, but only in age, not in maturity or temperament.  She is a child prodigy, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the world despite only being thirteen in a room of eighteen year olds. As a result, she often compensates with a snobbish, affluent English accent in order to elevate herself beyond the self-imposed barrier that she believes her age creates. Acceptance is the only thing she really longs for, not realizing she already has it in her brother and the others."

Connor: "He is the classic case of an introverted home schooled kid, soft spoken and prone to weird quirks when in private (his being an aversion to wearing pants).  Straight out of a time capsule from the 1950s, Connor is plagued with a voice that simply won't change and an awkward habit toward arousal whenever near a female, especially Cass.  He dreams merely to escape the bounds of his room and sweep Cass off her feet if only he could stave off his stampeding erections."

Duncan:  "Duncan is the classic case of a high school goofball who had one shining moment as Will Parker in Oklahoma! and grasps to it with all of his might. Unable to shake loose his Walker, Texas Ranger apparel, he finds himself constantly barraged by insults and berating comments, especially at the hands of Alex, who he pines after with an unrelenting passion.  Lovable and slow on the uptake, Duncan merely seeks the loving acceptance of another human being, eventually finding it, but not where he expected."

Emily:  "She is the leader of the band of misfits, standing stoic at her emperor like podium and speaking down to the others with a wound-up, school marm sense of order and protocol.  A beehive on her head and dressed like a reject from a late night Cinemax movie, her passion for Clay often overwhelms her, throwing her into frenzied fits of unbridled lust, even in public places.  Behind her closeted exterior, a dormant dominatrix lies, only brought out in private moments between her and her bust of Clay Aiken, her one and only love, or so she thinks."

JD: " Plagued with popularity he doesn't want, JD is the classic high school basketball star: a scholarship to UCLA, a fantastic three point shot, and quick, coordinated feet. However, his true passion lies outside of basketball and more in his feet; he wants to dance.  But, not just normal dance, JD yearns to be a Chippendale dancer, seductively swinging on the pole in the group's garage and enjoying every minute of it."

Kodi:  "Kodi is a performer at heart (or so he thinks), strutting into a room and taking his own picture with a disposable camera as if the paparazzi were hounding him every where he goes.  With a loud obnoxious flare, he enters room by himself, but with the stampeding attitude and sway of an entire entourage, dreaming to one day walk down the red carpet and pose for the army of photographers.  He is constantly at odds with his sibling Cicaida as she challenges him on intellectual matters, and he belittles her small size and stature despite their deep devotion to one another."
