Kevin Bacon Joins Upcoming Frost/Nixon Film

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Bacon has joined the cast of the upcoming film version of Frost/Nixon as Nixon's chief-of-staff Jack Brennan.

Sam Rockwell, Toby Jones and Matthew Macfadyen were previously announced to join London and Broadway Frost/Nixon stars Frank Langella and Michael Sheen in the screen adaptation of Peter Morgan's acclaimed play. Langella and Sheen reprise their respective roles as Richard Nixon and interviewer David Frost, with Rockwell as journalist James Reston Jr., Jones as Hollywood dealmaker Swifty Lazar and Macfadyen as British TV journalist John Burt.

Ron Howard (The Da Vinci Code, A Beautiful Mind) is set to direct the film, which will be brought to the screen by Working Title's Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, as well as Brian Glazer of Imagine Entertainment.  Shooting commences in late summer.

Bacon has been seen on Broadway in An Almost Holy Picture and Slab Boys, as well as Off-Broadway in such plays as Spike Heels, Road, Loot, Poor Little Lambs and Getting Out.  Film credits include Where the Truth Lies, Mystic River, Hollow Man, Apollo 13, A Few Good Men, JFK, Flatliners, Footloose, Diner and Friday the 13th.

Frost/Nixon opened on Broadway on April 22, 2007 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 West 45th Street) after beginning preview performances on March 31. The show, which played London's West End, a sold-out run at the Donmar Warehouse, and the Gielgud Theatre before coming to Broadway, stars Frank Langella as President Richard Nixon and Michael Sheen as Sir David Frost, as well as  Remy Auberjonois (John Birt); Shira Gregory (Evonne Goolagong); Corey Johnson (Jack Brennan); Stephen Kunken (Jim Reston); Stephen Rowe (Swifty Lazar/Mike Wallace); Triney Sandoval (Manolo Sanchez); Armand Schultz (Bob Zelnick); Sonya Walger (Caroline Cushing).

Press notes state, "Frost/Nixon tackles the question: How did David Frost, a famous British talk-show host with a playboy reputation, elicit the apology that the rest of the world was waiting to hear from former President Richard Nixon? The fast-paced new play shows the determination, conviction and cunning of two men as they square off in one of the most monumental political interviews of all time."
