Maria Aitken's critically acclaimed production of The 39 Steps will transfer to the Criterion Theatre following its successful run at the Tricycle Theatre earlier this month. Patrick Barlow's adaptation of John Buchan's The 39 Steps, best known as Hitchcock's 1935 classic movie thriller, will once again star Catherine McCormack.

The 39 Steps will run at the Criterion Theatre from September 14, booking until January 13, with press night on September 20.  The show, which also features Rupert Degas, Charles Edwards, and Simon Gregor in multiple roles, will include designs by Peter McKintosh, lighting design is by Ian Scott and movement by Toby Sedgwick.   The 39 Steps is presented by Edward Snape for Fiery Angel Ltd and Tricycle London Productions Ltd.

"This brand new version will be performed by four actors playing a minimum of 150 roles and contains every single legendary scene from the award-winning movie – including the chase on the Flying Scotsman, the escape on the Forth Bridge, the first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged and the sensational death-defying finale in the London Palladium, besides many other favourite cinematic moments, including the memorable and controversial 'stockings and suspenders' scene!," according to press materials.

McCormack is best known for her role opposite Mel Gibson in Braveheart.  Her other film work includes and The Land Girls, This Years Love, The Tailor of Panama and Spy Game.  On stage she has appeared in Vermillion Dreams at the Salisbury Playhouse, Lie of the Mind at the Donmar, Dinner, Free and Honour at The National Theatre and White Horses at the Gate Theatre, Dublin.  She was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 2001 for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in All My Sons at The National Theatre.

The 39 Steps was originally staged at West Yorkshire Playhouse and directed by Fiona Buffini.  It is from an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon.
