1st Stage's Quilters, book by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, with lyrics and music by Barbara Damashek, directed by Deidra LaWan Starnes, has been extended through December 31.

Just over a year ago, I reviewed 1st Stage's production of N. Richard Nash's 'The Rainmaker,' about a conman offering hope to a drought-racked farm family. Now, the Tyson's Corner-based company is presenting another story of hope, love, and determination in the prairies.

1st Stage announces 'Quilters,' a moving musical by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek. Set on the American frontier, this musical tells the story of a group of women who come together to create a quilt that reflects their shared history, struggles, and triumphs. With soaring harmonies, touching monologues, and stunning choreography, 'Quilters' is a musical experience unlike any other.

It was exactly ten years ago I first saw Stephen Temperley's SOUVENIR at Baltimore Center Stage which starred Tony Award winner, Judy Kaye. I could not imagine seeing a better version of it ever. But, I was wrong. The Rep Stage version is just plain spectacular and the two actors who perform here, Grace Bauer and Alan Naylor are just plain marvelous.
