Centerstage’s offering brings together a remarkably even cast of four top-notch, talented actors, all making their debut at the theater and bringing to life the strange story of a motley crew who keep each other company in their misery.

BWW Reviews: A Brilliantly Ugly PRETTY PRETTY at the Strand by Jack L. B. Gohn (Baltimore)(2/6/2012) There is anger at the way men perceive women – and abuse, rape, belittle and objectify them. Owen’s woman-hating fantasy may not reflect reality, but that doesn’t make it harmless. That point can make the show hard to watch at moments, as it wends its way through scenes of imagined rape and murder. But it wouldn’t do to look away. There’s painful humor at every painful turn.

READER FEEDBACK: ICEMAN COMETH at Fells Point Corner by Daniel Collins (Baltimore)(2/1/2012) A Mr. Mark Squirek -- a non-facebook subscriber but an individual with an evidently keen interest in theater -- sent me this response to a recently posted review of Eugene O'Neill's THE ICEMAN COMETH, now at the Fells Point Corner Theater. To post responses to BWW reviews requires facebook membership (it's a way to eliminate anonymous, hateful postings), but not everyone has joined the millions taking the facebook plunge. I was impressed enough with the detail and depth of this letter to include it as a READER FEEDBACK column. I will say that I am a member of the ICEMAN cast, so I believe it only right to note that here. In any event, here is Mr. Squirek's comments.

BWW Reviews: Just the Songs (and Dance), Ma'am: SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE at Toby's by Jack L. B. Gohn (Baltimore)(1/31/2012) The songbook of Jerry Leiber (1933-2011) and Mike Stoller (1933- ) is a natural for jukebox musical treatment, because it encompasses such variety that it requires little by way of setting to stay interesting. You don’t need a plot, you don’t need performers to talk or act, all you need is a band, some choreography and costumes, and some great singer/dancers, and you’re there.
