Does anyone know which version Renshaw is using for the Brixton revival? I know the NYC staging had a new book by Charles Busch and I don't see his name associated with this new production.
It's actually a rewrite of the London book. Lucian Freud appears as a character in this version, and Billy's father has a bigger role than previously.
Some of the Broadway songs have been added, and there's a new number (No Need To Work So Hard) in place of Independent Woman. Some of the numbers have also been altered (e.g. duets to trios).
Act I Ode to Attention Seekers (Philip Sallon and ensemble) Safe in the City (Billy) Freak (Philip Sallon) Stranger in This World (George) Genocide Peroxide (Marilyn) I'll Have You All (Leigh Bowery) Love Is a Question Mark (Billy and Kim) Shelter (Petal) Pretty Lies (Kim and George) Guttersnipe (George and Marilyn) Talk Stranger in This World (reprise)
Act II Everything Taboo (Leigh Bowery and ensemble) No Need To Work So Hard (Josie, Kim and Philip Sallon) I See Through You (Billy) Petrified (Philip Sallon) Ich Bin Kunst (Leigh Bowery) Out of Fashion (Steve Strange, Marilyn, Billy,) Il Adore (Big Sue) Pie in the Sky (George, Billy, Kim) Come on in From The Outside(Full Company)
Absolutely loved this yesterday, best night at the theatre I can remember in ages. Fantastic score, warm witty (revised) book and simply the perfect cast in the perfect venue. Paul Baker is incredible as Philip Sallon, cannot recommend this highly enough. More gushing on my blog, but get down to Brixton before December 23 for the most fun you're likely to have with your clothes on this year. Taboo
Watched this on Sunday after years of wanting to see a production of the show, and have to say it was definitely worth the wait. Cast were uniformly excellent, the space works brilliantly for it and i reckon i was in tears for at least a quarter of the show either through laughter or sadness.
so glad it's extended, that gives me a chance to fit in another trip down to Brixton.
good luck to everyone joining the cast in their press night tonight! Hopefully it will drum up further publicity from it and make the show extend even longer!!
Heard many good things about this production. Have booked to see it, thanks to a good half price GILT offer. Am looking forward to seeing it at the end of the month
What an excellent show. The production works so well in the intimate Brixton Clubhouse. The cast are outstanding and the show, if a tad too long, is great. Loved it, I even got to chat to Phillip Sallon & try one of his smoked salmon creations
