One of the goals of The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre has always been to provide entertainment for all ages. That is why, alongside the theatre's Mainstage season which features Broadway style productions, it launched The Children's Theatre in 1996. Since then, The Children's Theatre at Way Off Broadway has brought all of the most popular children's fairytales and stories to life on the stage. From productions of Jack and the Beanstalk and Dora the Explorer Live! to The Three Little Pigs and Disney's 101 Dalmatians, Way Off Broadway has been the home to some of the most well known children's characters of all time.
With the 2013 Children's Theatre Season, the list of popular characters to appear at the theatre will only continue to grow. During the first half of the year, Disney and Way Off Broadway will meet with two blockbuster productions. First up, and opening the season, is Disney's Aladdin beginning January 19 and running through March 9, 2013.
Audiences will be transported by magic carpet to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! All of your favorite characters are here in Disney's Aladdin Jr., a stage adaptation of the Disney hit film. Filled with magic, mayhem, and flying carpet rides, audiences' spirits will soar with excitement. Most of all, the tuneful, Academy award-winning score with songs including "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me" will certainly make this musical a favorite for many years to come.
One of Aladdin's most memorable characters is the Genie, voiced in the movie by the comedic genius Robin Williams. Way Off Broadway brings together a veteran cast of Children's Theatre performers to fill the roles that make the show so fun and exciting. Cast members include Joseph Waeyaert as Aladdin, Jordan C. Allen as the Genie, Jordan B. Stocksdale as Jafa, Bill Kiska as the Sultan, Matthew Crawford as Razoul, Ryan Patrick Kane as the voice and puppeteer of Iago, Sam Buchanan as the acrobatic Magic Carpet, and introduces Natalie Stephenson as Jasmine.
Disney's Aladdin Jr. is based on the 1992 Disney film with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. The script was adapted for the stage by Jim Luigs and Bryan Louiselle. Way Off Broadway's production is directed by Jordan B. Stocksdale.
Children's Theatre performances are every Saturday afternoon and the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month, as well as select added weekday performances throughout the year. Tickets are $17 per person with birthday party packages also available.
Following Disney's Aladdin will be Disney's Cinderella and the return of Pinkalicious - The Musical.
