Imagination Stage Presents MICE ON THE MOVE, Now thru 11/11

Starting today, October 6, Imagination Stage brings back its popular show for the very young:Mouse on the Move. This show, called "ridiculously adorable" by Our Kids, had its world premiere production in January 2012 at Imagination Stage, making it the theatre's 35th commissioned new work for children in Imagination Stage's 33 year history.

 

Mouse on the Move runs in Imagination Stage's Christopher and Dana Reeve Studio Theatre today, October 6-November 11 at 10:30 and 11:45. Appropriate for ages 1-5, tickets are $10-$12, with a $5 lap seat for children under 12 months.  Tickets may be purchased online at www.imaginationstage.org, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301-280-1660. 

  

In the play, Nellie and Amelia are two adventurous mice ready to explore the world beyond their little mouse-hole. They decide to go to the moon, since it is cat-free and made entirely of delicious, mouth-watering cheese. Like many of Imagination Stage's shows for this age group, the performance will be a multi-sensory experience. Children are given a small suitcase of props with which they help the actors tell the story. 

 

Co-developed and directed by Artistic Director Janet Stanford and Associate Artistic Director Kathryn Chase Bryer,Mouse on the Move builds on their successful 2009 collaboration, Wake Up, Brother Bear!.

 

"Janet and I chose the theme of transportation because we know that cars, trucks, boats, trains, and airplanes are fascinating to children, and transportation is a great curriculum tie-in for the nursery schools," Bryer explains. "In addition, we will be exploring the nature of the shy child in this story: Nellie, who is very bold, helps her friend Amelia overcome shyness and fear in order to achieve her dreams. I am really looking forward to bringing this show back in October!"

 

Jasmin Danielle Johnson will return as Amelia. Jasmin has also been seen at Imagination Stage in Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells (2009-2010 season). She has a BA in Theatre from Michigan State University. Recent credits include the Angel Gabriel in The Blake Nativity (Theatre Alliance) and Natalie Rubin in Adam's Morgan: The Movie(Paul DeVeaux Productions).  The role of Nellie will be played by Caitlin Shea. Caitlin's previous credits include The Kennedy Center's tour of Knuffle Bunny and Olney Theatre Center's Grease.

 

Mouse on the Move will travel to the Atlas Theatre in Washington, D.C., for a portion of its production run, October 17-22. Ticket information can be found online at www.atlasarts.org.

 

The 2012-13 season of theatre for the very young continues with Germany's Theatre der Nacht's Häwelmann (November 13 – 21), Wake Up, Brother Bear! (January 3 – February 3), and England's Tell Tale Heart's From Here to There (March 6 – April 14). This season runs alongside the Lerner series that includes P.Nokio: A Hip-Hop Musical; Seussical; Anime Momotaro;James and the Giant Peach; The Magic Finger; and Peter Pan and Wendy.

 

In addition to performances, Early Childhood programming at Imagination Stage includes the very popular Sunday Fun-Daysand the new Saturday Song Circles.
