Construction is set to begin today on Columbia, Maryland's newest performing arts facility, Red Branch Theatre. To be located at 9198-H Red Branch Road in Columbia, Red Branch Theatre will become the new home to two theatrical organizations – Drama Learning Center and Red Branch Theatre Company.

The new Red Branch Theatre will feature a 200-seat proscenium theatre, spacious lobby and reception area, fully-functioning backstage area, and two rehearsal studios/classrooms.

Construction "officially" begins at noon today (March 26) and is expected to last until later in 2012. In an opening ceremony, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman and Stephanie Lynn Williams, Owner and Artistic Director of Red Branch Theatre, will lead local business and community leaders, supporters, parents, and students in swinging the first hammer to start construction.

"Support from individuals, families, area businesses, and, in truth, the entire community has paved the way for the growth of both Drama Learning Center and Red Branch Theatre Company, and now with that growth, the creation of Red Branch Theatre," says Ms. Williams.

According to Ms Williams, the new facility "will enable Drama Learning Center and Red Branch Theatre Company to offer even more classes and theatrical productions in the future."

Beyond the two theatrical organizations, Red Branch Theatre will serve as a performing arts facility available for rental, addressing Howard County's need for more performing arts venues. It also will be available for corporate meeting space.

Drama Learning Center (DLC) has brought the magic of the stage to people of all ages by providing theatre education and entertainment for more than 20 years.
