Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) have announced today that Golden Globe nominee Alicia Silverstone will join the previously announced Laura Linney in The cast of Manhattan Theatre Club's upcoming New York premiere of TIME STANDS STILL by Pulitzer Prize winner Donald Margulies with direction by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan.

Silverstone will be returning to Broadway after her appearance in the smash Broadway production of The Graduate. Her extensive television and film credits include the iconic film Clueless and the NBC series "Miss Match" for which she received a Golden Globe nomination.

The limited engagement of TIME STANDS STILL will begin previews at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street) on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 in preparation for a Thursday, January 28, 2010 opening night.

In this new production, Silverstone will play ‘Mandy,' a role which garnered her critical acclaim during the play's world premiere in Los Angeles. Bob Verini of Daily Variety said Silverstone, "turns her character into an independent spirit of unexpected conviction."

Press notes that, "Are we supposed to deny ourselves ordinary happiness because there's misery in the world? This is one of many questions Donald Margulies (Brooklyn Boy, Sight Unseen, Dinner With Friends) poses in his intelligent and timely new play. James and Sarah (Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Laura Linney), a journalist and a photographer, have been together for nine years and share a passion for documenting the realities of war. But when injuries force them to return home to New York, the adventurous couple confronts the prospect of a more conventional life. TIME STANDS STILL is a blazingly important new work about responsibility - to ourselves, to our loved ones, to our community, and to our world. The production will be directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Sight Unseen on Broadway, Brooklyn Boy, Rabbit Hole, Proof)."

Complete casting for the four person play and the complete creative team for TIME STANDS STILL will be announced in the coming weeks.

Manhattan Theatre Club's complete 2009-2010 Broadway season at the Samuel J. Friedman will feature a new production of George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber's THE ROYAL FAMILY, the New York premiere of Donald Margulies' TIME STANDS STILL, and the Broadway premiere of Margulies' COLLECTED STORIES. The Off-Broadway season will include Lynn Redgrave's NIGHTINGALE, Bill Cain's EQUIVOCATION, and Polly Stenham's THAT FACE.
