Fringe Fort Myers 2024 opened Thursday, May 30, and runs through Sunday, June 2. The Carousel of Burlesque is one of nine shows included in this year’s festival. It’s also one of three performances that are returning from last year’s inaugural fringe.

Among the nine acts included in this year’s Fort Myers Fringe Festival is Keith Alessi’s Tomatoes Tried to Kill Me But Banjos Saved My Life. Alessi will be on the Foulds Theatre stage at 5:30 on Saturday (June 1) and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday (June 2).

The current production I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change directed by Robert Cacioppo is a complete delight. The cast of four, Natalie Brouwer, Shane Dinan, Amanda Ross, and Ted Wioncek, III, bring strong voices and impressive comedic skill to song after song about every facet of love. I laughed throughout the evening in gleeful recognition of many situations I’ve experienced.

Players Circle Theater presents the hilarious musical comedy I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE with book and lyrics by two-time Tony winner Joe DePietro and music by Jimmy Roberts.

Musical theater performers must do it all and make it look easy. The actors appearing in Godspell at Players Circle Theater more than meet the challenge with exuberance. They act, sing, and dance and then add pantomime, funny accents, and playing musical instruments to the mix.  And get up close and personal with the audience, making eye contact without missing a beat.

In Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, a lonely older woman hires a younger male ballroom dance teacher to come to her St. Petersburg condo for lessons.

I made my first visit to Players Circle Theater to see the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Proof. The intimate confines of this black box-like venue are perfect for this four-character play.
